Wrong Way Driver leaves 2 adults and 3 children dead on Highway 4 Thursday Morning
PITTSBURG, CA – 2 adults and 3 children die in fatal crash early Thursday morning in Contra Costa County near Pittsburg, CA.
CHP was alerted to a driver heading the wrong way on Highway 4 around 12:10 am. The driver was in a Hyundai Elantra traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes.
The Hyundai driver continued along Highway 4 on the wrong side when they collided head on into a Ford Flex going westbound west of Loveridge Road.
According to CHP officials, “Both vehicles sustained major damage and came to rest within the westbound lanes” said in a news release.
The driver of the Ford was reported dead at the scene; no passengers were in this vehicle. The driver of the Hyundai was accompanied by 3 children all of whom were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation is ongoing so it is uncertain whether drugs and/or alcohol were a factor.
Westbound Highway 4 was temporarily closed following the incident and has opened again at 4 a.m.
