Fire in Walnut Creek townhome causes 2 deaths and injures 1

WALNUT CREEK, CA – A fire broke out Monday morning in a Walnut Creek townhome claiming 2 lives, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Department. The two-alarm fire originated at the Countrywood Townhomes.

Firefighters arrived on scene about 6:30 a.m. to a two-story townhome at 1721 Countrywood Ct. Upon arrival, 1 of the 3 individuals residing in the townhome claimed there were still 2 other people trapped inside.

Unfortunately, those 2 residents did not make it and died in the fire according to Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Chris Bachman.

Further reports note that the fire has been extinguished as of 7:40 a.m. As investigation is ongoing the names of the individuals involved have not yet been released.

The fire affected 3 units in the townhome and the two neighboring homes. No other injuries have been reported. Fire officials ask the public to avoid this area.
