Driver runs red light and strikes 26-year-old motorcyclist

A motorcycle accident in California has resulted in a 26-year-old woman being declared brain-dead. The accident occurred on April 24 during the afternoon hours.

The woman was riding through an intersection on the motorcycle when a Honda sedan drove through a red light. The driver of the Honda was arrested for driving under the influence of prescription drugs.

This accident reveals just how tragic motorcycle accidents can be. A woman who is this young should have had almost an entire life ahead of her. It appears that the negligence of one driver may have taken almost all that she had.

Motorcycle accidents happen for a variety of reasons and it is surprising that more motorcycle accidents do not actually occur. Many drivers do not take their obligations when driving a motor vehicle seriously.  Drivers sometimes ignore the presence of motorcycles, drive while distracted or, as appears to have happened here, drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Some drivers while failing to pay attention to a motorcyclist being present also fail to yield the right-of-way. Combining inattentiveness with alcohol or drugs is a recipe for disaster. Whatever the circumstances, even a momentary distraction can lead to a motorcycle rider being killed.

Lawyers can help family members of victims such as this attempt to get on with their lives. While there is nothing that a lawyer can do to take back what occurred, they can at least take steps to make certain the family does not suffer even more due to financial costs that came about because of such an accident.
