A hit-and-run accident has California police searching for the driver who sent one woman to the hospital. The victim — a wheelchair-bound woman — was hospitalized after the auto-pedestrian wreck left her with severe injuries. Despite what many people believe, it is still possible for victims of hit-and-run accidents to recover compensation for a personal injury even in the event that the liable driver is not found.
The accident occurred around midday when the pedestrian was struck without warning by a passing vehicle. Police did not indicate if the victim was crossing an intersection or traveling alongside the road, only that the vehicle was northbound at the time. The driver then failed to stop and render aid, and instead drove off, leaving the victim behind.
California police found the vehicle relatively close to the site of the accident as it had apparently been abandoned only a few miles away. By the time it was found, the vehicle had caught fire and was entirely engulfed by the flames. There were no occupants found in the car, and it is still not clear if the fire was the cause of another collision or if it might have been set deliberately.
At last update, the victim was still listed in critical condition, and the full extent of her injuries are not yet known. However, most car accident victims end up suffering emotional and financial damages on top of the physical injuries suffered in the wreck. Addressing these damages in a timely manner is often essential for a victim’s recovery, and in hit-and-run situations, it is often possible to still recover personal injury compensation via a claim made against the victim’s own insurance policy.
